This portfolio was created as my final project for EDU 342: Managing the Learning Environment at Montana State University. Throughout the 2019 spring semester in EDU 342, I learned the basics of school law, engaging classroom instruction, and discipline & intervention practices. This class was designed to help pre-service teachers grasp the basics of creating effective classroom community, showcase what a healthy learning environment looks like in a K-12 classroom, and compare and contrast different classroom management philosophies. After taking this course I gained a clear understanding of my own philosophy on classroom management and was able to see that my own philosophy is a combination of both humanistic and behavioristic ideologies. As a result of this class, I have learned how to create a welcoming classroom community and have thought of specific strategies and rules that will make my classroom succeed.
Throughout this portfolio you will see my knowledge showcased though two different chapters. Chapter one focuses on my philosophical position while chapter two focuses on specific plans I intend to use in my classroom. Specifically, in chapter one I will cover the five most important decisions I will make as an educator, my personal code of ethics, where I stand on the theoretical continuum, and my personal management philosophy. In chapter two I will cover my ideal classroom layout, the rules and expectations I intend to implement in my classroom, four different procedures I plan to teach students, positive & negative consequences, what my classroom community will look like, and additional management resources.
As I create this final portfolio I am preparing to teach the following class:
